In a welcoming community, administrative processes play an important role. In order to improve support services and the basic understanding of the special needs of people with an international background, initiatives for the internationalization of the administration at TU Braunschweig have been started. These include such areas as personnel development; programs for promoting international experiences, better orientation on campus and the general increase of service quality. The administration is constantly working on the improvement of services and activities for international individuals.

Competencies for the implementation and support of processes with relevance to people from all around the globe should be anchored as broadly as possible in both central and decentralized organizational units. TU Braunschweig's continuing education programs are also aimed to specifically address international issues and activities with international partners. The activities in the field of internationalization will be made more visible via special websites. Corresponding external activities (e.g., inter-university continuing education, educational leave) will also be included in the portfolio.
Special needs of the technical and administrative staff will be analyzed to optimize and expand corresponding training activities. By raising awareness of intercultural aspects, a deeply rooted welcome community on a broad basis can be established, inviting people to actively participate in existing and future internationalization activities. We intend to raise the service provided by administrative personnel in international activities to an even higher level by special further training programs.
Employees in the central and decentralized administration take part in personnel development programs and continuously get educated in fields such as languages, intercultural issues and international services. The central administration of TU Braunschweig offers a wide range of bilingual forms and helpful documents in English. In all areas and departments, persons with proven foreign language skills are available to address concerns with an international background competently and in a timely manner.
TU Braunschweig’s Facilities Management is gradually implementing bilingual signage, making orientation easier for our international guests. Central buildings and the Main Campus have already been signposted in English and German. Other areas will follow if a renewal becomes necessary. Templates for bilingual room signage exist and there is a uniform translation of all organizational units in the administration. For e-mail correspondence, the handout for bilingual signatures and absence notifications is used as a guideline throughout the administration.
To further qualify administrative personnel on international issues, their mobility abroad and opportunities to gain international experiences are actively promoted. Through the partnerships with Tampere University and the University of Strathclyde, in-depth contacts exist, which are used for such activities as international job shadowing or topic-related exchanges of best practices. These partnerships are filled with life by regular delegation visits and structured formats, also in such fields as science and transfer.
