Leading scientists of both aeronautic and aerospace research are members of the Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL). Contributing institutions are the TU Braunschweig, the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), the Leibniz University of Hannover, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as well as the National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB). Consequently, members of the NFL are professors and PIs working representing their disciplines within the institutions mentioned previously.
The executive board of the NFL consists of two representatives of the TU Braunschweig as well as two of the DLR. Advisory members of the managing board are the NFL managing director and the spokesman for the professors of aeronautic and aerospace. The tasks of the executive board include the development and definition of the centre’s overall research strategy as well as the coordination of acquisition and execution regarding joint research projects.
Leading personalities in the areas of politics and aviation industry form the advisory board of the centre. They have an influence on the development of the NFL's long term research strategies. The members of the advisory board get appointed by the executive board for a period of three years.
The NFL's main office is the contact point of the centre, which is open for any kind of requests may they come from other research organisations, private companies or citizens interested in the activites of the centre. Head of the main office is the managing director who is in charge of the commercial coordination of current research projects. Furthermore, he is responsible for bringing forward funding proposals and generating final reports summing up results of finalized projects of the NFL.
