Laboratory

The laboratory at the Leichtweiß Institute in Braunschweig is 140 metres long and 40 metres wide, giving it a total working area of 5,600 m². There are various test facilities for investigating two-dimensional and three-dimensional hydraulic effects. Wave channels of different sizes can be used to investigate two-dimensional effects - from 8 metres, as in the demonstration wave channel in a climate chamber, to 95 metres in the double wave channel. The wave basin, which can be filled with a maximum water volume of almost 400 m³, is available for three-dimensional investigations.

Even larger investigations are possible in the Coastal Research Centre, which is a joint facility of TU Braunschweig and Leibniz University Hannover. The large wave channel+ (GWK+) with a length of over 300 metres, a width of 5 metres and a depth of between 7 and 13 metres is located at this site. The research facilities of the long-wave generator and the miniGWK+ are also located here.
