The aim of this research project is to develop and establish a neutral and OEM-independent database with real driving data and use cases that is accepted in the automotive industry. Based on specific use cases and driving profiles, the database will serve as a basis for the design of future electrified powertrains and components. The database can also support legislation by identifying relevant and representative driving situations and environmental conditions.
The first step was to define the requirements for the data, taking into account the various areas of application. A suitable database structure is developed based on the data requirements. Various data sets are taken into account, both low-level data such as frequency distributions and high-level data in the form of time-resolved vehicle measurements.
Following the development of the database, data is acquired. On the one hand, the IfF has access to data from the institute's own 3F database, which comprises around 8 million kilometers of real driving data. In addition, European mobility studies and surveys are evaluated and also integrated into the database. The database will also be expanded with the help of data donations from working group members, other research projects and industry.
The institutes also carry out their own measurements on the public road, on a climate roller test bench and on a diesel and petrol engine test bench. These data sets, which are very detailed due to additional measurement technology, are used to develop the database more precisely. These measurements are also intended to demonstrate the application-oriented usability of the database.
The credibility and usability of the data will be demonstrated by identifying optimal powertrains for two use cases and comparing usage profiles from the database with RDE-compliant driving in terms of emissions on a VKM test bench.
