The two-hectare site of the former Zobel nursery on Lehmanger in Braunschweig forms the starting point for addressing the question of how a mixed-use neighbourhood with maximum social added value and a minimum ecological footprint can be created in times of climate crisis. The approaches and designs developed will be discussed in the design process with the City of Braunschweig's Urban Regeneration and Climate Protection and Strategic Environmental Planning departments.
As a basis for the design, a spatial programme will be developed that provides for residential, commercial and leisure uses and enables an appropriate ratio of high building density and generous green and open spaces. Resource efficiency as a central design principle is to be brought to bear as early as the urban planning design process, in the placement, programming and organisation of the buildings and open spaces.
The urban development vision that you formulate forms the basis for the further design discussion of the neighbourhood, its open spaces and buildings.
