Since 1 August 2001, employees of the State of Lower Saxony have been subject to the Administrative Regulations on Corruption Control in the State Administration.
The administrative regulations contain provisions designed to effectively prevent corruption and to increase the detection, prosecution and punishment of corrupt practices. It serves as a guideline for the conduct of all employees and at the same time provides guidance and assistance for necessary measures to prevent and control corruption.

In order to intensify the prosecution of corruption, a Zentralstelle “Korruptionsbekämpfung” [Central Office for Corruption Control] has been established at the Landeskriminalamt Niedersachsen [State Criminal Police Office of Lower Saxony] with responsibility for statewide coordination and for investigations in particularly outstanding cases or in proceedings of supra-regional importance. Information on corruption is also accepted anonymously by the State Criminal Police Office of Lower Saxony via a web-based Internet platform (BKMS).
