The Institute for Application Security (IAS) is interested in the broad spectrum of security and privacy that exist on the application level. This includes the detection of vulnerabilities in source code or protocols, identification of novel security issues, and the development of procedures and tools to prevent security vulnerabilities. Current research focusses on the topics of software security including web application security, honeypots, fuzzing, novel privacy securing measures, the design and evaluation of security relevant protocols.

The progress in autonomous driving, modern computers or smartphones as we use them every day, is not only based on constantly improved hardware, but on intelligent methods to reduce complicated problems to a minimum of their complexity. The Algorithmics Department is looking for exactly such possibilities to save the computer a lot of computing work.

The Internet and other communication systems provide the backbone of our information society today. Many technical systems already work not only stand-alone but also in cooperation with others. This requires protocols and procedures that are reliable and can adapt to changing requirements. The Connected and Mobile Systems Department works in the following research fields:

• Architectures of networked systems and communication systems
• Mobile systems and wireless networks such as vehicle networks and sensor networks

The Research and teaching activities of the Reliable System Software Department are centered around operating systems: From hardware over system software up to languages and compilers with a focus on constructive methods for the design and development of adaptable and versatile system software.

The Institute of Computergraphics researches the nature of images. Their interdisciplinary work consists of computergraphics, computer vision, applied optics, and visual perception. The main goal is to develop practical and new algorithms for visual data processing.

The Institute for Information Systems focuses on the field of intelligent information management and personalized information provisioning for a wide range of domains including complete digital libraries. For improved functionality and rich user experience, the institute performs basic research pursuing and supporting new ideas like collective intelligence, cognitive and crowd-enabled data management, and data mining and learning-based retrieval processes.

Robotics is an interdisciplinary field of teaching and research in which, in addition to the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering, computer science is particularly involved. The possibilities and advantages of robot technology are also becoming increasingly attractive for applications in the areas of service, care, surgery, etc. For the installation and programming of robot-supported production lines, experts from all disciplines with sound knowledge of robotics are required.

Modern automobiles are inconceivable without informatics. Software is becoming more and more important for vehicle functions. This ranges from comfort function, such as air conditioning or the radio, to safety-critical applications, such as airbags or ABS systems. The importance of software is constantly increasing. The Institute of Software Engineering and Automotive Informatics is researching concepts, methods and tools that allow software-intensive vehicle functions to be implemented in a resource-efficient manner, so that the high demands on the quality of safety-critical software can be fulfilled at the same time.

The Institute of Theoretical Computer Science is working on the behavior of network applications, remote programs or multi-threaded software. The goal of these considerations is to understand and analyze the underlying working methods to develop efficient algorithms.

Theoretical Computer Science in Braunschweig is specialized in inference techniques and is currently developing algorithms for the automatic correction and optimization of systems in current space research.

The Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics (PLRI) is a collaboration between the TU Braunschweig and the Hannover Medical School (MHH). Together, important advances in medical information acquisition and information management can be achieved.

The aim is to provide high quality and affordable medical care for everyone. This would not be possible today without a well-planned information management.

In teaching, the PLRI participates in the curricula of medicine (MHH), computer science, business informatics (TU Braunschweig) and related courses.

The Department Data Science in Biomedicine evaluate molecular data to better understand the basics of diseases. They develop methods combining network biology, artificial intelligence and statistics.
