Facilities / Equipment
The institute maintains several computer workrooms with a total of over 50 PCs for teaching purposes. Thanks to professional CAD graphics cards and 3D input devices, the computers have the performance required for computer-aided design. Full HD projectors or public displays are available for the visualization of models.
With the “Drehscheibe” consultation room, the IK offers all students a central consultation room. Outside the busy lectures and tutorials, this room offers you the opportunity to ask questions to the specialist supervisors without time pressure, to take a detailed look at exhibits and to find out about current tasks for student work.
The institute for engineering design offers students of TU Braunschweig the oppertunity to experience pententials and boundaries of additive manufacturing technoligies. In the weekly consultation-hours (Wednesday 3-5 pm, Langer Kamp 8, Room 309) of the Additive Manufacturing (AM) Laboratory students are given a platform to realize their own projects using additive manufacturing (3D printing). Students are encouraged to bring their own projects or components to the consultation hours. The focus of the AM lab is on raising students' awareness of the potential and limitations of additive manufacturing processes based on practical experience. The process is supported and accompanied by research assistants from conception to design and production.
The IK has an institute-owned library. In addition to a collection of specialist literature, student papers and dissertations written at the IK are also archived here. Borrowing is only possible via the institution members. You can also reach the library at ik-bibliothek(at)tu-braunschweig.de.
The workshop area has the machine tools and working equipment required for the production of test devices and functional patterns, such as, for example,
The software equipment includes all common CAD systems: Solid Edge and NX from Siemens PLM Software, Creo from PTC and CATIA from Dassault Systemes. For the design of components, calculations, optimization and simulation, a large selection of standard and special solutions can be used at the IK with the eAssistant PlugIn from the Braunschweig-based company GWJ Technologie, ANSYS and Nastran for FEM calculations as well as various programs such as Artisan, Maple, Mathematica, Matlab and MathCAD.
Almost all lectures offered at the IK are made available to students in digital form. The equipment consists of tablet PCs, wireless microphones and video cameras. Together with special software, the lecturer's video and audio as well as slides and notes can be recorded and then made available on the Internet.
