Current Research

Siran is a doctoral researcher at the DFG funded international research training group TransTiP (Geo-ecosystems in Transition on the Tibetan Plateau). For her current PhD project, she conducts ethnographic research to examine the generative yak-human-grass relationships in the context of ecological conservation and modernization, through the lens of multispecies studies and political ecology.

Siran is also working with an ecologist and a geodesist to explore the possibilities and limits of transdisciplinary environmental research by incorporating yak herders’ experience with climate and remote sensing data sets.

Research Focus:

Pastoralism, Multispecies Ethnography, Political Ecology, Environmental Anthropology, Environmental Humanities, Medical Anthropology, Ophiocordyceps sinensis

Regional: The Tibetan Plateau (Nagqu, Yuslhu, Golok, and Diqing), India (Delhi and Chamoli), Germany (Torgau)
