Centre of the experimental activities in the IFL is the new 590 m2 wide testing hall with its unique fundament sustaining very high loads. The shops for composite, wood and metal machining surround the central testing area as well as the laboratories for the electro mechanic and servo hydraulic testing machines for determination of material characteristics and for conditioning of specimen.
The shops allow the in-house manufacturing of all specimen, from standardised specimen with simple geometries up to complex structures, as e.g. the spar of a composite wing. Furthermore all desired devices e.g. for clamping of the specimen or for transmission of force may be fabricated. Calibrating devices and sensors are also manufactured for special testing purposes.
The testing hall is equipped with a central hydraulic system (Hydropuls of Fa. Schenck). Several servo hydraulic cylinders may be mounted and operated at the actually required testing location.
The subsequent testing machines and facilities are explained in its application and the possibilities of the machines are shown. For this, the dimensions of the specimen and the workspaces are given (see sketch below).
