Design and construction of the universal Test Rig MPT (Multiaxial Panel Test rig) were conducted at the IFL to be able to perform tests on lightweight structures und multi-axial cyclic loading. Therefore, the machine consists of six independent hydraulic cylinders that can apply a nominal static force from 630 kN to 2.0 MN. Amplitude and Phase of the cylinders can be regulated freely. Modal control and the following of time-based signals is possible as well.
The special construction of this testing device allows the user to apply vertical as well as horizontal shear load simultaneously with normal compression or tension loads. Like that, the test-specimen can be subjected to every biaxial load combination. Further and more detailed information concerning this testing device can be attained through contacting Dipl.-Ing. Klaus Dietrich (Tel. 391-9918).

The test-specimen can be made up of metal or any fiber reinforced plastics. Stiffeners such as stringers or bulkheads can also be integrated into the test-frame to determine their influence on the specimen structural behavior. Detailed information on the Test-rig as well as the specimen can be found in this Handout.
Apart from the standard clamping jaws, any other jaw can be integrated in the test-rig as long as it does not exceed the available testing volume on the machine:
