After studying structural engineering at the Bauhaus University of Weimar, Mike Sieder worked at the Chair of Building Construction, Timber Engineering and Building Physics at the Ruhr University of Bochum, where he was involved in research and development projects on façade designs for the energy-efficient renovation of existing buildings. Within this activity he received his doctorate in 2003. Subsequently, he worked as a project engineer in a nationally active engineering office for structural design and was responsible for the planning of public buildings and architecturally exceptional building constructions. From 2004 to 2006, he was an authorised signatory and head of the building physics division at the Gesellschaft fürMaterialforschung und Prüfungsanstalt für das Bauwesen (MFPA) Leipzig GmbH, where he worked in the field of building physics and structural engineering in testing, monitoring and certification as well as in materials and construction research. Since the beginning of his studies, he has been working as a freelancer in various planning and engineering offices, where he has been responsible for the planning of load-bearing structures across materials and structures. This has been extended by his work as the technical manager of a company in the field of membrane structures and light-weight flat load-bearing structures. From 2009 to 2012 he held the deputy professorship of the chair for timber construction and building design at the Technical University of Munich. In 2013 Mike Sieder was appointed honorary professor of the Technical University of Munich for the field of membrane construction and timber bridge building. Mike Sieder was appointed to the Technical University of Braunschweig on August 1, 2014 and has been head of the Institute for Building Construction and Timber Structures since then.

Martin H. Kessel, born in1946, studied civil engineering at the University of Hannover from 1967 to 1973. There he received his doctorate in 1980 on the geometrically non-linear load-bearing behavior of spatial frameworks.
He then worked as a senior engineer at the Institute for Timber structures at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne until 1990. During this time, he founded his own engineering office kgs and the company cadwork informatikGmbH for CAD/CAM software development.
In 1986 Kessel was called to the University of Applied Sciences in Hildesheim, where he founded the Laboratory for Wood Technology (Labor für Holztechnik LHT), where he carried out a large number of experimental studies on material and component behaviour. Today, the LHT is a testing, monitoring and certification body recognized by the building authorities, which Mr. Kessel heads.
Mr. Kessel is a test engineer for structural analysis and a member of the expert committee for timber construction of the DIBT.
