  • Student Workshop "Living Heritage between architecture and engineering - Workshop Goslar" in cooperation with the Institute of Architectural History (Prof. Alexander von Kienlin)
Together with students of architecture, the workshop provided a comprehensive insight into the historical building fabric of the city of Goslar and allowed a building survey and analysis to be carried out on selected objects. The students were able to apply the knowledge they had acquired in the lecture "Building preservation in timber structures" to specific objects and to extend it by many substantial aspects. The workshop is part of the university-funded project "Transfer Program - Distribution of Innovative Teaching-Learning Concepts at the TU Braunschweig", for which the Institute of Building Construction and Timber Structures together with the Institute of Architectural History had successfully applied.

  • Practical exercise on investigation methods in the context of the lecture "Building maintenance in timber structures".
With the support of Mr. Frank Rinn (Rinntech company), students received comprehensive insights into the theory and practice of investigation methods in timber construction, especially the method of drilling resistance measurement, in the course of a practical exercise. After having completed the building survey and substance evaluation, the students were able to carry out drilling resistance measurements on a historical building under the professional guidance of Mr. Rinn and evaluate the results.

  • Würth Company Practical Seminar
On January 17, 2018, two employees of Würth were guests at the Institute for Building Construction and Timber Structures in order to give students an insight into the variety of possible applications of timber screws.
In addition to a theoretical part, which explained the possible applications of different types of screws and the fundamental differences between them, there was a practical part on the topic of reinforcing wood components.
The event was rounded off with an overview of the handling of a building authority approval for screws, in order to make it easier for prospective engineers to start their possible practical work in their later professional life.
We would like to thank the Würth company, which was represented by Mr Schulz and Mr Öchsner.

  • Workshop "Membrane structures" (2017)
From 20. to 22.09.2017 the Institute for Steel Structures and the Institute of Building Construction and Timber Structures offered the student workshop "Membrane Structures" for the first time. Together with representatives of the companies martens+puller Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, formfinder Software GmbH and LIZ-BOA design, the students were given a broad insight into the design and construction of membrane structures. A wide range of topics were covered, from form finding and cutting to size, statics and detailed planning to the joint assembly of a membrane and execution of a load test in the wind tunnel of the Institute for Steel Construction.
