Machines and technical products are not merely tools. They are also artefacts, developed by humans with certain intentions. Due to this developments a variety of exclusions is reproduced and inscribed into the artefacts. Therefore the aim of the course is to sensitize for the impact of cultural and gendered instances on both the creation and the use of technical artefacts. At the same time the course will also reflect upon the artefacts' effects on society, e.g. the reinscription of heteronormative stereotypes. In order to do that, the block seminar combines reflections on epistemological questions concerning technology with the experience of the development of technical artefacts at field trips to different laboratories.
