The Graduate College offers courses organized in three phases and different com-plexes, including lectures intended to broaden the scientific knowledge of the students in an interdisciplinary sense, to deepen the knowledge in the specific fields of research of the students, and to enable discussions on current scientific topics and issues in theory and application. Students will thus be able to perform their research work on a high scientific level and within the given time frame. Furthermore, other research work at the participating departments will also benefit from the courses and lectures of the study program.
a) Courses and seminars held by professors of the participating departments
Students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the basics of computational fluid mechanics, dynamics, and theory of elasticity und the respective numerical methods, by attending courses taken from the existing course program of the participating departments. A thorough background in the basics is the main prerequisite for successful research work. The student´s individual course program will be coordinated with the supervising professors in order to take into account courses previously taken at other institutions.
b) Compact Courses
Additional compact courses on a higher scientific level will be offered, covering topics of particular interest to the students. The courses will be held by the participating professors and national as well as international guest lecturers. These compact courses are expected to facilitate and help shorten the initial phase of research. Students will be provided with hand-outs and references to helpful books if necessary.
c) Visiting Researcher Program
Internationally renowned researchers and scientists will be invited to visit the Graduate College as visiting researcher for a period of up to two months. Visiting researchers are expected to hold lectures, participate in seminars and be available for discussion on research-related problems with the students. Visiting researchers may be invited by the professors of by the students.
d) Workshops
At annual workshops, scholars will have the opportunity to present their recent research work. The workshops will promote intensive discussion between the scholars about all aspects of their research work and boost the information exchange among scholars and professors. Participating in the workshops is compulsory for all members of the Graduate College.
