The Energiewende brings with it a multitude of challenges, from which a great need for research results. From today's perspective, an intelligent power grid can be seen as an essential success factor for the energy system transformation, which interconnects and controls consumers, producers, storage facilities and grid resources. This so-called "active distribution network" or "smart grid" is one of the three focal points of a central research fields of the Institute for High Voltage Technology and Electrical Power Systems - elenia at the TU Braunschweig. It deals with many different topics relating to the future role of the distribution grid. Within the focus "active distribution network" both technical and economic questions are considered. In this way, elenia is actively involved in shaping the Energiewende and developing recommendations for meaningful overall concepts
