At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Physics at the TU Braunschweig, doctoral degrees as Dr.-Ing. or Dr. rer. nat. are possible. The doctoral phase comprises independent scientific work and the performance of tasks at the institute (research/teaching/administration). It also includes doctoral preparation that is adequately supervised in terms of both content and methodology. In addition, it provides space for participation in continuing education events for the acquisition of additional interdisciplinary qualifications.
At its meetings on 20 November 2023, 18 December 2023 and 22 April 2024, the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Physics adopted the First Amendment to the Doctoral Degree Regulations (promulgated on 27 March 2014). The background to this amendment are updates to be made to Appendix 2 "Specimen Certificate" and Appendix 6, Annex A "General Guidelines - Publication / Delivery of Dissertations". The doctoral certificate now has a bilingual model (German and English).
The guidelines in Appendix 6, Annex A, have been adapted to the regulations of the University Library and contain clarifications and improvements for doctoral candidates. For example, the number of dissertation copies to be submitted has been reduced. With the exception of the updated regulations in Annex 6, Appendix A, doctoral candidates admitted until 20 November 2024 can informally request that the previous annexes from the announcement of 27 March 2014 continue to apply to them.
In addition to the changes to the content, the amendment regulations also finalised the gender-appropriate, barrier-free language, eliminated minimal spelling errors, standardised the references to other legal bases and corrected the presentation of the interpretation of a law. For ease of reading, you will find a non-official version below.
The International Max-Planck Research School (IMPRS) on "Physical Processes in the Solar System and Beyond" offers a first choice possibility for graduate students to obtain their PhD degree in a major scientific discipline with optimal career opportunities.
The TU Braunschweig and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) aim with the Braunschweig International Graduate School of Metrology at establishing a world-wide visible, unique training center for the science and application of traceable measurements. As reflected in the name of the school, three characteristics are combined: metrology, as an interdisciplinary field with a common, rigorous methodology, guides the curriculum and scientific program. Metrology aims at international harmonization and thus the school has a pronounced international approach. Finally, with the strong metrology-related research focus of the TU Braunschweig, and with PTB, Europe’s largest and internationally leading national metrology institute, Braunschweig is the first-choice location for such a graduate school.
