The Faculty Council decides on matters of research and teaching of fundamental importance. It decides on the regulations of the faculty, in particular the examination regulations, and gives its opinion to the Presidential Board on the introduction, substantial modification and closure of study programs. Faculty regulations require the approval of the Presidential Board.
The Faculty Council consists of up to 13 members with voting rights in accordance with the Basic Regulations. They are directly elected according to groups. The dean chairs the council without voting rights. The university faculty group must have one more vote than the other groups combined. When decisions are made on matters concerning the evaluation of teaching, the votes of the members of the student group are counted twice; in these matters, the members of the MTV group have no voting rights.
