For the most part, you will be studying on the North Campus, where a modern centre for humanities and educational sciences has been created.

Its central institute library and computer pools are ideal places to get your work done. The Mensa and sports facilities are within walking distance.

Information on the study programme

If you want to study English Studies, please choose it as your major or minor within the two-subject Bachelor’s degree programme.

There are four study objectives within the two-subject Bachelor’s degree, of which you choose one:

The two-subject Bachelor’s degree programme consists of two sub-programmes (major and minor) and an area of specialisation plus internships and/or school placements as well as a final module. In addition, there are courses in educational sciences and educational psychology when studying for a two-subject Bachelor’s degree in a teacher training course. The Bachelor’s thesis is written in the final module.

If the two-subject Bachelor’s degree is studied with the aim of becoming a teacher at a Grundschule, Hauptschule or Realschule, 51 credits are earned in the major and 45 credits in the minor. In educational sciences and educational psychology 45 credits are acquired. The area of specialisation (12 credits) includes courses with interdisciplinary and action-oriented components to help you develop cross-disciplinary and practical professional competences. 12 credits are earned by completing school placements. The final module includes writing the Bachelor’s thesis (15 credits).

If the two-subject Bachelor’s degree is studied with the aim of becoming a teacher at a Gymnasium, 90 credits are earned in the major and 45 credits in the minor. In educational sciences and educational psychology 6 credits are acquired. The area of specialisation (12 credits) includes courses with interdisciplinary and action-oriented components to develop cross-disciplinary and practical professional competences. 12 credits are earned by completing school placements. The final module includes writing the Bachelor’s thesis (15 credits).

If the two-subject Bachelor’s degree is studied with a subject-specific goal (no teacher training course), 90 credits are earned in the major and 45 credits in the minor. The area of specialisation (18 credits) includes courses with interdisciplinary and action-oriented components to help you develop cross-disciplinary and practical professional competences. The internships (12 credits) are completed on a subject-related basis (not at a school!). The final module includes writing the Bachelor’s thesis (15 credits).

If you choose English Studies as your major or with the aim of becoming a teacher, a three-month stay abroad is part of your studies.

Possibilities of combination

In principle, English Studies can be combined with all other subjects of the two-subject Bachelor's degree. However, some combinations are recommended or are only possible to a limited extent, depending on the desired degree.

If you are looking for a combination not mentioned here, we strongly recommend that you consult with the programme coordinator for the two-subject Bachelor’s degree.

If you are studying English Studies as a major or with the aim of becoming a teacher, a 3-month stay abroad is compulsory. If you are aiming to pursue a Master of Education at TU Braunschweig after completing the two-subject Bachelor’s degree, your stay abroad can be postponed until you register for your Master’s thesis.
