Note: Information on upcoming and past summer schools can be found in our current announcements.
With the program components of the open summer schools, the MGK has developed offers that are also open to persons before the doctoral phase. The summer schools are primarily geared towards interdisciplinary qualifications and have also been attended by associated persons.
The first summer school in 2011 had "Good Scientific Practice" and the presentation of research results on the topic. The summer school 2012 focused on "Gender and Diversity as Key Competence", which was designed in cooperation with the Equal Opportunities Office of the TU Braunschweig (see also Section 1.3.4). Further topics of this second summer school were "Innovation through intuition" and "Development of potential and communication".
In the summer school 2013, the doctoral students worked intensively on the presentation at the science/economy interface through group work and individual coaching and presented the results in a public science slam. Another workshop of this third summer school was dedicated to time management, communication, leadership and role understanding. In summer 2014, seminars on project application, legal issues, patents and spin-offs were held.
The Summer School 2015 was designed using the format "Good Scientific Practice", which has since been established. The format was combined with a workshop on "Theory U". Theory U is a method that enables a new approach to innovation and inspiration.
A team event of a special kind was the Summer School 2016, during which both the seaworthiness and even more the team spirit of the PhD students was strengthened on a sailing boat in the Dutch Wadden Sea. This gave the doctoral students the opportunity to master challenges together and find solutions together.
Methods for dealing with technical questions were presented and experienced in the summer school 2017. The first part, with the efficient development of research software, was characterised by the wishes of the doctoral students. The second part of the summer school introduced the "Design Thinking" method. The doctoral students were able to learn and apply the method in a fictitious business game.
The Summer School 2018 is currently in the planning stage. The topics to be covered at the end of the doctoral phase include exciting topics such as spin-offs, project applications and coaching on presentation techniques.
In the summer and winter school programmes, a time block is reserved for the doctoral students' self-administration. Here the doctoral candidates have the opportunity to discuss topics relevant to them and, if necessary, to hold elections for a graduate representative.
