From June 8 to 16, 2024, the biannual IdeenExpo took place in Hanover. Mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology were once again vividly presented and brought to life for all visitors. As these topics are also widely represented at TU Braunschweig, the various institutes demonstrated their research activities using a wide assortment of exhibits. Among these, the Battery LabFactory Braunschweig (BLB), which was represented by the Institute for Particle Technology and the elenia Institute, contributed fascinating exhibits on the subject of battery production and energy storage. Visitors to the expo were able to join a virtual lab tour of the BLB and get hands-on experience of the various components of a battery and different types of battery cell formats. The miniature Marx generator, which produced short high-voltage pulses that could be perceived as flashes and loud bangs, also attracted a lot of attention. A model house was used to demonstrate the different energy flows in future homes and the sustainable generation and storage of electricity. Visitors also had the opportunity to assemble their own battery, using citric acid as an electrolyte to generate a voltage between two metallic electrodes. In addition, our scientists were on site to provide insights on the exhibits and the current state of research and development. We had a great time being part of the IdeenExpo and look forward to welcoming many enthusiastic visitors next time again who want to experience cutting-edge research topics up close!
