What‘s your nicest memory of Braunschweig and do you have a favorite place?

One of my favourite places when I was a student was the cafeteria next to the library, which unfortunately no longer exists and which had the world's best cheesecake. It was a great place to meet between lectures. The same goes for the flat roof of my student hall of residence at Gaußstraße 16, which no longer exists either. We (illegally) celebrated cool summer parties there and shared the feeling that the world was just waiting for us.

Reasons why the TU Braunschweig is a great place to study:

Bicycle city with short distances and a high quality of life, as well as (in the Psychology department) a good professor-student ratio, lots of support and team spirit in the degree programme.

Describe the time of your studies in 3 words:

  • diverse
  • practice orientated
  • high level of self-organisation

Which contents of your studies can you still use in your career today?

In my opinion, it is first and foremost the transferable skills that I learnt during my studies and which now help me in my professional life: Focusing on topics in a short space of time and acquiring knowledge quickly, thinking precisely, questioning things in order to really understand them and organising myself well.

Are you still in touch with former fellow students? Do you see each other and if so, how often?

Yes, once a year.

What advice would you give current students for their personal career planning?

  1. Life cannot be planned.
  2. Take yourself the time to live during your studies (these great times won't come back). Breaks or gaps in your CV are not an obstacle nowadays if you can explain them with confidence.
  3. Get an awareness for your strengths and ask yourself what you really, really want. I often meet clients in coaching who realise in mid-life that they have had a great career but have missed out on themselves.

In one sentence - In the future I wish the TU Braunschweig:

... that young people and researchers say: That's where I want to go!
