What‘s your nicest memory of Braunschweig and do you have a favorite place?

The rooms with pianos in them and Akablas.

Reasons why the TU Braunschweig is a great place to study:

Lots of opportunities, everything that Natural Sciences and Engineering have to offer - from the basics to the applied subjects. Top.

Describe the time of your studies in 3 words:

  • Flunked
  • in
  • Thermodynamics (even though Mr Baehr had high expectations for me).

Which contents of your studies can you still use in your career today?

Many things, because there is nothing better after learning than practice - and for that you have to study properly and with genuine interest. I knew what I was doing it for: for example, it was about sustainable machines for recovering fertiliser that plants absorb as they grow or developing a counter-piston engine. I also realised that the Leipzig energy exchange is, unfortunately, a 'dead end' and that we need a local correlation between supply (sun and wind) and demand... otherwise the redispatch costs will go through the roof.

Are you still in touch with former fellow students? Do you see each other and if so, how often?

Yes, I am.

What advice would you give current students for their personal career planning?

  1. ‘Roll your eyes, look outside, go into the companies, nature, processes’ .... is what my vocational school teacher used to say: We need to bring learners (even more) into contact with nature.
Don't shy away from lateral deve
  2. Don't shy away from lateral developments or supposed detours: e.g. studying after university entrance qualification via the second educational pathway or vocational training before/after university.
  3. Break down boundaries (e.g. by making contact with representatives of other generations) and think outside the box (e.g. through interdisciplinary thinking and action in the sense of Humboldt's educational ideal).

In one sentence - In the future I wish the TU Braunschweig:

Top-notch professors and leaders at the helm (such as Dr Hesselbach in my days).

My Braunschweig alma mater and its students are welcome to contact me for:

  • Guest talks and professional expertise on "solution for the energy transition, circular economy, CO2 capture through pyrolysis"

  • Information about my professional field and tasks

  • Sharing experience in connection with application processes and career start
