What‘s your nicest memory of Braunschweig and do you have a favorite place?

The fondest of my many fond memories is probably that of the 2020 "Lichterparcours", when people flocked to the (light) installations in droves during the covid pandemic. My favourite place is probably the theatre park, an enchanted place in late summer when the sunlight falls at an angle.

Reasons why the TU Braunschweig is a great place to study:

To me, the TU Braunschweig is characterised by an incomparable diversity of civic society organisations: from student fraternities to the Red Falcons, from the German-British Society to the Protohaus, you find everything.

Describe the time of your studies in 3 words:

  • Inspiration
  • Workload
  • Community

Which contents of your studies can you still use in your career today?

Apart from the fact that I am doing more or less the same thing I did during my PhD project: developing formulations for drugs, my studies have taught me to structure my work, e.g. to define work packages and milestones.

Are you still in touch with former fellow students? Do you see each other and if so, how often?

Yes, I build so many friendships during my studies that have lasted to this day. We meet up in larger groups at least once a year, but we also meet individually more often. It depends a lot on your personal situation and location. Visiting friends in Munich or Stuttgart is different from visiting friends in Wedesbüttel.

What advice would you give current students for their personal career planning?

  1.  Don't stay in your first job for too long after graduating. As a rule, you don't have enough insight into the domain you're interested in to find the right niche for yourself, nor do you have a good enough idea of your own worth to negotiate well.
  2.  I realise that this hasn't become easier in this day and age, but moving out from home (= your parents' place) is, in my opinion, an infinitely important step for personal growth. Don't take it too late.
  3. Expose yourself to new experiences. Innovation is a recombination phenomenon.

In one sentence - In the future I wish the TU Braunschweig:

An ever thriving ecosystem of start-ups and spin-offs, also in the pharmaceutical sector ;)
