What‘s your nicest memory of Braunschweig and do you have a favorite place?

The best memory is the moment when our study group received the successful exam results of our “ultimate opponent” AC currents & networks exam during our joint vacation. At that point, we were out of the woods and knew that we had our Bachelor's degree virtually in the bag. My favorite place was and is definitely the Michaelishof and the student pub there every Thursday. As a resident and member of the pub team, I enjoyed an open and friendly atmosphere in the courtyard for most of my studies and made many friends there.

Reasons why the TU Braunschweig is a great place to study:

- the wide range of study programs on offer
- the challenging but well-rounded course of study
- many opportunities to think outside the box during your studies (as part of an internship or final thesis in companies; Career Service offers such as excursions or career talks by alumni)

Describe the time of your studies in 3 words:

  • challenging
  • community-building
  • educational

Which contents of your studies can you still use in your career today?

The network of former fellow students that you keep bumping into in your professional life. Be it in your own company or in joint projects. In addition, the ability and knowledge that, with the right commitment, diligence and enough time, you can work through even the most complex issues.

Are you still in touch with former fellow students? Do you see each other and if so, how often?

Yes, regularly with my former study group, who are still my best friends and some of them are also work colleagues. At least once a year, we also go on a (hiking) vacation together.

What advice would you give current students for their personal career planning?

  1. Start networking early (be it in your own degree program or with potential companies).
  2. Take a look at potential companies and professional fields (I used both internships and both theses to get to know companies and gain initial insights into professional life. Take advantage of opportunities such as excursions, job fairs or career field presentations to gain more insights and expand your network. I got to know my current employer, TenneT, during my Bachelor's degree through an event organized by the Career Service).
  3. Do an Erasmus semester (I spent half a year in Stockholm to move out of my personal comfort zone and get to know a different university life).

In one sentence - In the future I wish the TU Braunschweig:

Many more motivated and inquisitive students, a lively student body, and that the Michaelishof pub will see many more generations through their studies.
