Incomings

Graduates are qualified to perform basic architecture-specific activities largely independently and partially on their own responsibility. These include:

Creating concepts, studies and drafts
Drafting, designing and constructing buildings with a simple degree of difficulty in the context of the city and landscape
Preparing design and execution plans with a simple degree of difficulty
Participation in the preparation of the execution

Architects bear a particular social responsibility for the design of the built environment, including the aesthetic, atmospheric, functional, economic and ecological implications. During their university studies they learn and develop the necessary knowledge, creativity, energy, cooperation and responsibility for this range of tasks.

In the bachelor's degree programs in architecture and architecture+ and the master's degree program in architecture, the well-known and recognized profile of the Braunschweig School is taken up and further developed. The focus is on teaching design competence. This includes the intellectual skills of critical analysis, evaluation and comparison as well as the fundamental ability to engage in artistic-creative debate.

Like all undergraduate degree programs at the TU Braunschweig, the bachelor's degree programs are designed to lead to a university bachelor's degree. The acquired skills are relevant for the labor market, so that employability is achieved. However, the acquired knowledge and skills are not sufficient for an unrestricted independent activity in architecture and planning offices or other professional fields. For this purpose, further qualification is necessary, which can be achieved within the framework of a consecutive master's degree program.

Qualification goals of the bachelor's degree program in architecture

The bachelor's program in architecture is a basic education for university architects. It is designed for the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the entire spectrum of the subject of architecture, i.e. it aims at training students to become generalists. This includes historical-cultural knowledge, artistic-creative skills, technical-constructive knowledge as well as competence in architectural and urban design. This includes the respective subject-specific methods and skills as well as professional and interdisciplinary qualifications. Graduates can be employed flexibly. They are able to find employment in all subject-related professional fields. The artistic, engineering and humanities competencies acquired in the Bachelor's degree program in architecture provide a suitable basis for the consecutive Master's degree program.

With the achievement of the bachelor's degree, it should be possible to start a career in a short time. The completed bachelor's degree makes it possible to acquire the skills and abilities required for professional practice in the respective occupational fields in supplementary training either in a master's degree program or in business ("learning on the job"). If the direct path to professional practice is chosen, supplementary on-the-job further qualification through suitable further training measures should be sought. The bachelor's degree also allows students to transfer easily between universities in the international arena and to switch to related or complementary courses of study. With a subsequent master's degree in architecture or sustainable design, an internationally recognized, professionally qualifying degree (chamber qualification) can be obtained.

The technical basics are taught in six competence areas and deepened in design projects. Included are the respective specific methods and skills as well as a professional field-related qualification with the inclusion of interdisciplinary competencies:

In the first four semesters in particular, basic knowledge (general and subject-specific fundamentals) is taught and learned in all sub-fields of architecture. In the second half of the bachelor's program, the basic knowledge is expanded and more complex designs are carried out up to the bachelor's thesis. Knowledge, skills and competencies are generally taught in lectures, exercises and seminars and demonstrated by means of assignments, design exercises and presentations.
