In the vision "Healthy City", we examine various aspects of urban health:
(i) health in relation to individuals, i.e. the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, including health care and prevention, and
(ii) health with regard to the urban ecosystem and landscape, which, in addition to urban metabolism, also includes safeguarding the urban habitat for all organisms living there (urban biodiversity).
In the vision of the "Healthy City", we aim to minimise health risks - such as noise, the effects of extreme climatic events, air pollution, wastewater, light and infection - on the one hand, and to maximise health resources - such as nature experience, social contacts, sporting activities, recreation and relaxation - on the other. In addition to the well-being and physical comfort of urban dwellers, we also consider aspects such as the general quality of life, resilience and flexibility. The vision is thus closely related to the vision of sustainability with its economic, social and environmental aspects as well as to the TUBS research focus on infection research.
Current research fields within the framework of the vision "Healthy City" include the areas of health care of the future, hygiene, ubiquitous environmental sensors, healthcare measurement systems, green roofs, biodiversity in the healthy city for all (with special consideration of "blue" and "green" infrastructure), urban ecosystem services and urban landscape epidemiology.
