About 40 participants took the opportunity for a very special encounter: a discussion with Prof. Dr. Zoltan Spakovszky, Director of the Gas Turbine Laboratory (GTL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on November 22, 2021.
In the morning, Prof. Spakovszky shared his extensive experience with the supervision of doctoral students with the SE²A researchers. Also, the three post-doctoral researchers Dr.-Ing. David Burzynksi (Coldsense Technologies GmbH), Dr.-Ing. Dajan Mimic (Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics, LUH Hannover) and Dr. Christian Thies (Institute of Automotive Management and Industrial Production, TU Braunschweig) gave insights into their own experiences with carrying out their doctoral studies. We are sure that the lively discussion will be of much help to the SE²A doctoral researchers who will go into their final year of doctoral studies in 2022.
In the afternoon the topic became more technical: Prof. Spakovszky gave a talk with the title “Instabilities Everywhere! Hard Problems in Aero-Engines”. He addressed a number of problems of technological interest in aero-engines with focus on dynamical system modeling and identification of the underlying mechanisms.
We would like to thank everyone being invovled in realising the discussion and the lecture. A special thank you goes to Dr.-Ing. Lothar Bertsch, DLR Göttingen, for making the contact to Prof. Spakovszky possible.
