The challenge posed by the development of a future-oriented air transport system is to consider factors that extend beyond the purely technical, including the environmental impact, the interests of stakeholders, and the needs of users. In my research, the process of research through design is extended in the Futures-Design-Process Modell as a theoretical foundation. By employing foresight techniques that yield explorative and normative scenarios, a comprehensive range of social, technological, economic, ecological, and political factors and trends are taken into account. Moreover, the collective intelligence of cluster partners is drawn upon to broaden and connect the potential futures in air transport with their respective research. By embracing the complex nature of alternative futures, it may be possible to explore options that currently appear infeasible.
