Problem:
In October 2005 a heavy Earthquake hit the North-East of Pakistan. Thousands of people were killed. The infrastructure was completely destroyed. Supported by EC the waste management in Bagh will be rehabilitated.
Aim:
All components of a modern waste management will be implemented in Bagh (collection, biowaste collection, composting facility, landfill. Contructing a landfill in the mountainous area is a ambitious task for the engineers. The pictures illustrate the measures:
:
It was anticipated to design a local-specific technical solution. the landfill is sealed with a 1.5 mm geomembrane on top of a 20 cm compacted clay layer. The landfill body will act as an additional barrier, because it is operated as a MBT-landfill. Emissions and efforts for leachate treatment shall be minimized.
