Already for the third time, a delegation from the Institute of Transportation and Urban Planning (IVS) and the Institute of Transportation, Railway Construction and Operation (IVE) traveled to Finland to visit Tampere University (TAU), a strategic partner of TU Braunschweig. Research Collaborations in Focus
At the Transport Research Centre Verne in Tampere, the primary focus was on expanding joint research collaborations in the field of transportation research. Through various presentations – including those by phd candidates – innovative approaches and potential projects were discussed, aiming to optimally combine the expertise of both institutions. The discussions underscored the importance of cross-border research to effectively address challenges in mobility and transportation.
Consolidation of Teaching
Building on insights from previous visits to Finland, the exchange on teaching methods and content was also further advanced. Both the Finnish hosts and the delegation from Braunschweig presented proven teaching concepts in transportation, which will be deepened in the future through guest lectures, joint courses, and digital formats – although the primary focus of this meeting was clearly on research.
Conclusion
The multi-day visit impressively demonstrated the value of international collaboration for advancing both research and teaching in transportation. Both parties are confident that the insights gained will be transformed into concrete projects – a sentiment that was charmingly underscored during an informal sauna session, where the warm atmosphere served as a gentle reminder that even a small spark can ignite groundbreaking innovation.
