Shaping a sustainable future is one of the most urgent tasks of our time. Cities, as concentrations of population, economic output and resource consumption, play a central role in this.Through the design of cities, important impulses are set to shape urbanisation, migration and climate adaptation in the sense of sustainable development.
The lecture "Making City" imparts basic knowledge of resources, dynamics and regulations of sustainable urban design. Essential topics include theoretical discussions of globalization, urbanization and sustainability, as well as practical design fundamentals such as an understanding of urban types and the application of types and measures of structural parameters and the consideration of a human scale. The topics are brought together in exemplary design strategies for sustainable cities, city regions and urban districts of the future.
Combining practice and research with in-depth lectures and exercises as well as a video-based online course, "Making City" spans an arc from the explanation and discussion of global phenomena and challenges to the urban planning project and concrete design practice.
