André Bauknecht is a senior scientist at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics, with a research focus on unsteady aerodynamics, rotary aerodynamics and aircraft aerodynamics. After obtaining his degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Stuttgart, he studied aerodynamics of free-flying and actuated helicopter rotors at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Göttingen, for which he received his doctorate in 2016. He further worked on compound helicopters at the Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center of Excellence at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD before joining the Technische Universität Braunschweig in 2019, where he works as an Independent Research Group Lead and PI in the Cluster of Excellence on Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation. He now is involved in several academic and industry collaborations focused on topics including: flow control on aircraft wings for gust and maneuver load alleviation, multi-functional leading edge devices, and multicopter flow field characterization.
