On September 17-18, 2018, the Pavement Engineering Centre (ISBS) at TU Braunschweig, chaired by Prof. Michael P. Wistuba, hosted the prestigious international symposium of the RILEM Technical Committee (TC) 252-CMB on Chemo-Mechanical Characterization of Bituminous Materials.
This conference represented the closing event of five years of international research activity of this TC. During the symposium, 48 scientific papers were presented on different topics addressing the combination of chemical and mechanical characterization of bituminous materials with the goal to gain a better understanding of the behavior of this complex material, and to finally leading to more durable and better performing transportation infrastructures.
The contributions were divided among different themes, including Bitumen Aging Mechanisms and Characterization, Chemo-Mechanical Coupling, Microstructure and Micro-Mechanics, Multiphase Analysis of Binders, among others.
125 attendees from 25 different countries were present at the conference. All scientific papers are published in a Springer book series, with Prof. Augusto Cannone Falchetto and Professor Michael P. Wistuba from TU Braunschweig serving as co-editors.
