Brief description:
Given a growing diversity among students at German universities and colleges, a profound diversity management has increasingly been demanded. However, universities and colleges mainly focus on the establishment of structures that secure their own attractiveness for diverse student groups (such as equality programs, increased family-friendliness), while the consequences that diversity management might have for lecturers are considered less thoroughly. Also, the question of identifying those diversity features that might have an impact on a successful course of study has not yet been scientifically addressed. Additionally, it has not yet been fully investigated which actions should be taken in order to manage diversity successfully and in a sustainable way.
Our research therefore aims at gaining empirical findings about how relevant diversity is for universities and colleges. The theoretical background our research is based on takes into account findings from (university education- and) evaluation research, esp. person-environment-fit theories that address the extent to which students' needs are compatible to the supply offered by their university. The current research examines students' perspectives on diversity management as well as their satisfaction with it.
