In this module, based on the teaching content that was imparted in “Basics of Design” and “Basics of Complex Machine Elements and Drives”, further methods for the operationally reliable design of components are dealt with. The focus here is on the extended service life calculation as well as the numerical calculation of key figures for unsteady loaded roller and plain bearing. Shaft couplings represent another component for which the design principles (dynamic properties, load limits) are deepened in this module.
In addition, the design with regulations is presented using examples (e.g. the pressure vessel design according to AD leaflets). In addition, the areas of application for the use of numerical methods in the design process (e.g. FEM) and the application of similarity methods (e.g. in the form of similarity indicators) are dealt with. Finally, this event deals with construction rules for components made of anisotropic materials, which you need, for example, for the development and implementation of lightweight construction solutions (made of fiber-plastic composite).
Within the framework of this module, the students should acquire an awareness of the meaning of the term “technical safety” and “economically sensible dimensioning”, as well as the ability to design machine and system components to be operationally stable, taking static and dynamic loads into account. By using (and complying with) technical guidelines and regulations, you will be able to avoid economic and safety-critical damage in the design and construction of components. In addition, the students are informed about how the design and construction process can be effectively supported by numerical and similarity-theoretic methods.
