Research Question and Motivation

Companies are increasingly focusing on efficient collaboration in order to survive in the face of global competition. Mr. Lacker, Managing Director of intrObest GmbH & Co. KG emphasises: "Suitable methods and tools for customer-oriented cooperation in value creation networks ensure competitiveness, especially for German SMEs". The joint project SynProd (Synergetic Product Development of Mechatronic Products in Value-Added Networks) has pursued the goal of effectively improving the interdisciplinary cooperation of companies in joint product development through a software-supported communication methodology.

Approach and Project Objective

The joint project SynProd (Synergetic Product Development of Mechatronic Products in Value-Added Networks) has the goal of significantly improving interdisciplinary cooperation. A software-supported methodology has been developed that makes it easier for departments and cooperating companies to use their knowledge specifically in the value-added network. Methods and tools from the areas of product development, production technology and business administration for the design of modular product structures as well as for the planning of development activities and manufacturing processes enable information from different company areas to be efficiently captured and structured. Through the web-based exchange using the SynProd tool, potentials for cooperation can be opened up directly and easily.

The SynProd methodology aims at being able to use the knowledge of suppliers, who are only later integrated into the product development process, at an early stage.
