Andreas Hördt elected to the Executive Committee of the German Geophysical Society.

At the General Assembly of the German Geophysical Society (DGG) on 26 February 2025, our institute member Prof Andreas Hördt was elected to the DGG Executive Committee. The DGG was founded in 1922 and currently has around 1100 members. One of the co-founders was Beno Gutenberg, after whom the Gutenberg-Richter scale still used today to indicate the magnitude of earthquakes is named. Walter Kertz from Braunschweig was the last president of the DGG from 1963-1964.

Prof Hördt will initially help shape the work of the association as President-designate and will automatically take over the office of President in two years' time.
