Description
In the summer semester of 2018, students of the master's program „Media Technology and Communication“, conducted research on the topic of climate change on the internet. Based on a study by Dr Arne Freya Zillich and Dr Lars Günther of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, which focused on online search behaviour on the scientific topic of autonomous driving, the research focused on how users react to critical positions on the topic of climate change and to what extent this influences their online usage behaviour. The theoretical background is provided by the theory of cognitive dissonance and approaches of selective media and online usage research. In addition to surveys and interviews, the main part of the comprehensive methodological design was an eye-tracking experiment, in which the subjects' eye movements were recorded during their internet research.
