At the beginning we did not know anything about compost and there were many questions to be answered, for example, what is the purpose of a composter in a school garden, what characteristics does it have to fulfil, how big should the composter be, where should it be located and above all, how do you build a composter that is as cheap and robust as possible.
So first we started with extensive literature research, where the "Arbeitsbuch Naturgarten" (Niemeyer-Lüllwitz, 1989) helped us a lot. after all questions were clarified, we turned to the practical. Prices and materials were then obtained in a DIY store - a little tip, price comparisons and competent advice in different DIY stores are worthwhile!
On Wednesday, 9 July 2010, we started the construction work at 8:00 a.m. in the best weather, whereby we had to repeatedly solve minor problems that arose unexpectedly. Since a shady place is ideal for a compost heap, as in our case under a tree, care should be taken that the soil sleeves do not encounter obstacles such as tree roots or large stones. The project can take a lot of time because of this and time management should be generous accordingly.
In this project, the strengths of the individual team members were highlighted and used optimally, which resulted in an extremely positive working atmosphere in the team. We are proud that the great amount of time, the entire planning and the craftsmanship led to a really great result.
