Internship for high school students and trainees

• During your student internship you get a comprehensive insight into the world of scientific research and (process) technology as well as the university work environment. It is advantageous if you have a basic interest in scientific and technical issues and, for example, play with the idea of ​​completing an apprenticeship / degree in engineering or science after school.

Typical stations during the internship are:

• Participation in student laboratories such as rectification, crystallization or adsorption
• Investigations on the scanning electron microscope
• Insights into the drawing of technical flow diagrams
• Participation in lectures such as "Thermal Process Engineering", "Chemical Process Engineering" or "Design of Process Engineering Plants"
• Theory and application of beer brewing in the institute's own BRAU-AG
• Working in the laboratory on various analysis measuring devices
• Work on test stands such as evaporators or fouling systems

Female students have the opportunity to apply for an internship at several institutes via the π-nut program of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and should prefer this route for organizational reasons.

An internship as part of the CTA training offers the opportunity to apply what you have learned in practice based on specific scientific questions. For this purpose, the ICTV has various modern analysis devices that are used in the context of research projects. We check whether test series / analytical measurements in your area of ​​interest are possible.

Typical work during your internship could be:

• Experiments on a fully automated laboratory reactor system to carry out processes lasting several days, such as the synthesis of active ingredients or solubility / crystallization measurements
• Experiments on an HPLC to determine the purity of various analytes such as sugars or amino acids
• Digital microscopy of materials
• Work in the field of polymer synthesis, determination of surface properties and rheology
• Sample analysis on a gas chromatograph
• Measurement and analysis of vapor-liquid equilibria
