The microclimatic effects of building energy retrofits (thermal insulation) were quantified using a numerical simulation study and recently published in the journal Urban Climate. The research tested the hypothesis that altered thermal properties of building facades can increase sensible heat fluxes at facade surfaces and thus lead to an increase in urban heat load.
