Hydraulic redistribution by plant roots is a process that can have great relevance for the survival of plants during drought - or not? Unfortunately, there are hardly any quantitative estimates of the contribution of hydraulic redistribution to transpiration. We want to change that. In two new projects, we are investigating hydraulic redistribution in German forests and other ecosystems using stable water isotopes and geophysical methods together with the Institute of Geophysics and Extraterrestrial Physics (IGEP). As a prelude we present a mini-series on the topic of hydraulic redistribution: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHXmuqkMgcLy_vGynhXaYHF-ubd8jjNXd
The two new projects are called:
HydRed: „Hydraulische Umverteilung (HR) auf der Feldskala: Neue Ansätze zur Messung und Beurteilung der Implikationen von HR für die Resilienz von Waldökosystemen“ (DFG)
H4Res: „Hydraulic Redistribution for Resilience“ (Klaus Tschira Stiftung)
