Publishing

Before publishing, research data must be archived sustainably.

All issues relevant for archiving, such as

  • File structuring and naming
  • File format
  • Metadata
  • Data selection
  • FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)
  • Legal aspects (copyright, data protection, licensing)

must be clarified in advance.

There are different options to publish research data. In choosing the appropriate option, the researcher's main focus should be to retain as many rights as possible to the respective research data.

According to the researcher's specific needs research data can be archived and published in different types of research data repositories ranging from generic cross-disciplinary ones to subject-specific or even topic-specific ones.

A good overview of subject-specific research data repositories is provided by re3data.

The LeoPARD of the TU Braunschweig – a good place for research data

Research data can be archived and published easily and sustainably on LeoPARD of the TU Braunschweig. The cross-disciplinary LeoPARD allows for linking research data with their respective publications via persistent identifiers (e.g. DOI). The level of FAIRness for research data can be adapted to the researcher's needs ranging from real open data to sharing only upon request.
