A week dedicated to diversity: Diversity Days 2024
That was the Diversity Days 2024: 7 days, 32 free program items and over 600 participants. The program covered the period from 28 May to 4 June and was designed in cooperation with various committed partners from the Braunschweig ecosystem.
More than 80 interested listeners gathered at the kick-off in the architecture pavilion of the TU Braunschweig to listen to the keynote speech “Racism-critical university - between necessity and strategic added value” by the award-winning racism researcher Prof. Lorenz Narku Laing.
In the days that followed, the facets of diversity were made visible at various locations in Braunschweig through exchange formats, workshops, keynotes, artistic and sporting activities. These included a table talk between bestselling author and activist Emilia Roig together with the Kombinat der Vulven in the TU Braunschweig canteen. Around 70 people listened to the lively exchange and discussed various aspects of Emilia Roig's work and her views on feminism and capitalism in the subsequent Q&A session.
Also the little ones were included in the program: Together with their parents, they were able to discover the colorful world of Nelly and her friends at the children's book reading with picture book cinema on “Nelly und die Berlinchen” by author Karin Beese. The reading in the university library was so well received by young and old that there were frequent requests for a repeat of this format. The same applied to the “Diversity Cup”, an inclusive volleyball match organized by the University Sports Centre in cooperation with Lebenshilfe Braunschweig. Despite the rain, around 30 athletes came together on the pitch and defied the weather with good humor and great sportsmanship.
