Help shaping corporate development: Information technology has found its way into almost all functional areas of companies and is assuming an increasingly important position. Information must be processed by information systems and made available at the required interfaces in order to ensure efficient operational processes.

What is special about TU Braunschweig?

Whether in human resources management, procurement, controlling, marketing, development or production: as a business information systems specialist, you help to direct and control business events. Some forms of business organisation are only made possible by information technology in the first place, such as electronic marketplaces or virtual companies.

The degree programme prepares you to play a decisive role in decision-making processes for important business operations.

Ready for practice

In the Business Information Systems degree programme, you will learn to understand and optimise the flow of information and goods and to implement them in a computer-based information system. A special bonus at TU Braunschweig is that the studies of software development can be pursued up to the Master’s level. This means that you are particularly qualified for a career in management consultancy or software development after completing your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

By completing an internship in the field of software development and a team project in computer science, your training will be very practice-oriented. In the professionalisation area of the degree programme, we will also teach you key communicative and social skills through seminars and courses on topics such as presentation techniques and scientific working methods.

Profile yourself for management tasks

The Master’s programme builds on the Bachelo’s degree. It enables you to take on management tasks in companies and qualifies you for an academic career.

In the Master’s programme you will deepen the basic knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's programme. You can decide for yourself what you want to focus on.

You can freely put together your subjects, or choose one of five areas of specialisation in which certain combinations are already pre-configured for you. This area of specialisation will then also be shown in your degree certificate. The following areas of specialisations are offered:

medicine and health

You complete your studies with a six-month Master’s thesis. This involves applying the methods and findings of the subject independently. You have the opportunity to write your thesis within the University’s own research facilities or in cooperating companies, so that you already get in touch with potential employers during your studies.

If you then want to look further into current research topics, you can do a doctorate in both areas, economics and computer science, after completing the Master’s programme.

International career opportunities

Studying abroad? No problem! Thanks to the numerous international exchange programmes at TU Braunschweig, you can easily integrate semesters abroad into your studies: Equivalent achievements from abroad are recognised. Ideally, this does not prolong your studies. More than one third of our students already gain international experience during their studies.

With special exchange programmes for Master’s degree students at TU Braunschweig, you can even obtain the American MBA (Master of Business Administration) on top. This is made possible through cooperation with the University of Nebraska (USA) and the University of Rhode Island (USA). You spend the last year of your studies in the USA and at the same time acquire the MBA and the Master of Science from TU Braunschweig.

Are you interested in solving business-related problems (e.g. what should advertisement look like or how should companies be managed)? Do you want to get to know how software is developed or set up (e.g. a web shop or a business information system)? If so, you will meet the most important basic requirements. However, it is not a prerequisite that you have already gained programming experience at school or attended a secondary school with a focus on business education.

Knowledge of mathematics is also required. You don’t have to have taken an advanced course in school, but you do have to be willing to learn and apply mathematical methods, e.g. optimisation or statistics.

Business informatics is the interface between business administration and computer science and is therefore also a field in which a lot of cooperation with other people takes place and a lot of emphasis is placed on teamwork. But being creative is also required here, as new innovative solutions have to be found for many problems.

Knowledge of English is important, although basics are sufficient for the Bachelor’s programme. The main focus here is on understanding current specialised literature, as some of it is only published in English. In addition, only English expressions are used in the field of software development.
