During the second funding phase, important aerodynamic and structure-dynamic questions related to UHBR-engines will be investigated. This primarily includes the impact of the ingestion of the boundary layers of fuselage and the wing on the efficiency and the stability of ultra-high bypass and low pressure ratio fans. The increased fan size is expected to lead to stronger structural and aeroelastic effects compared to conventional systems. This can be further amplified by the installation position close to the upper wing trailing edge, and thus requires detailed analyses of the dynamics of rotating engine parts and of non-linear effects.
