Master's programme in Civil Engineering

The consecutive Master's degree programme in Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig builds on the basic training of the Bachelor's degree programme and offers you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in a targeted manner. We promote a research-oriented education and offer a comprehensive range of courses in the following areas:

Structural Engineering
Water and environment
Transportation and infrastructure
Computational Engineering

Thanks to the great freedom of choice in our Master's degree programme, you can design your studies individually. In the profile area, you have the opportunity to combine modules from over 20 specializations. You decide for yourself which modules from the various specializations and which complementary modules you choose in order to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals.

At TU Braunschweig, you will be studying at one of the leading technical universities in Germany (TU9). Our strong networks with industry, science and research enable you to gain valuable practical experience during your studies and gain insights into the professional world beyond the lecture hall.

Our Master's degree program offers you an extensive range of modules in the profile area. We offer a total of 23 specializations as well as supplementary modules, which you can combine according to your interests.

The general part of the examination regulations (APO) applies to all Bachelor's and Master's programmes at the TU Braunschweig. Supplementary regulations for the study programme can be found in the special part of the examination regulations (BPO). The corresponding module guide book (MHB) contains the description of the modules. We have summarized the most important regulations for you in our explanations of the study program.

The area of key qualifications enables you to develop your interdisciplinary skills in a targeted manner. It is divided into two central modules:

Lecture series (2 CP): Here you can choose from a wide range of seminars offered by the faculty or take part in alternative seminars on request. Excursions can also be credited (no compulsory excursions).
Pool of interdisciplinary qualifications (4 CP): Thinking outside the box - here you can choose courses that are not related to civil engineering. Language courses can be included. In consultation with the Examination Office, alternative courses can also be taken into account which correspond to the qualification objectives in accordance with the module handbook.

The final academic section includes a student research project worth 10 CP, optionally a second student research project worth 6 CP. Student research projects should be thematically related to the modules taken.

The theses are supervised directly by our institutes, including the issue and submission. Please contact them in good time for advice on the topic and scheduling.

With the Master's thesis (20 CP) at the end of your studies, you show that you are able to independently familiarize yourself with a complex topic and work on it methodically. You present your work as a lecture and have the opportunity to answer questions and discuss your results. The Master's thesis is supervised directly by our institutes, including editing and submission. Please contact them in good time for advice on the topic and to arrange a date.
