What‘s your nicest memory of Braunschweig and do you have a favorite place?

My PhD days (1996-2001) at what was then the Institute of General Mechanics and Strength of Materials under Professor Dr Elmar Steck at Gaussstrasse 14.

Reasons why the TU Braunschweig is a great place to study:

High quality in teaching and research, wide range of study programmes, high quality of life in the city and the surrounding area.

Describe the time of your studies in 3 words:

  • groundbreaking
  • life-changing
  • future-orientated

Which contents of your studies can you still use in your career today?

In relation to the field of Mechanics: structured thinking in systems,

In relation to the later work as an assistant during the doctoral period: working and dealing with different personalities, supporting/coaching people on their life and career paths

Are you still in touch with former fellow students? Do you see each other and if so, how often?

Yes, albeit irregularly.

What advice would you give current students for their personal career planning?

Find out who you are, what your talents and abilities are, and what you really want. We only have this one life to live.

In one sentence - In the future I wish the TU Braunschweig:

Diverse, inquisitive, and above all cheerful students and staff.
