Dr. Christian Weckenborg awarded prize for application-oriented scientific achievements

The Initiative Wissenschaft und Automobilindustrie e. V. (IWA) has honored Dr. Christian Weckenborg for a publication. In the journal article entitled "The Volkswagen Pre-Production Center Applies Operations Research to Optimize Capacity Scheduling," he describes his process for scheduling assembly capacities in prototype vehicle production. In doing so, he has succeeded in developing a scheduling tool that has replaced the previously manual approach to scheduling in the pre-production center.

The research award in the subject area "Planning and Optimization in the Automotive Industry and Related Innovative Industries" was given for the seventh time on June 11 as part of the "Theory meets Practice" symposium. With this award, the IWA e. V. pursues the goal of promoting and specifically pursuing intensive knowledge transfer between science and (automotive) industry. The prize is endowed with a total of at least 2,500 euros.
